FAQ

What is threading?+

Threading is a hair removal technique that has been practiced for centuries. Facial hair is removed swiftly

Q. What is threading?

A. Threading is a hair removal technique that has been practiced for centuries. Facial hair is removed swiftly yet meticulously from the most delicate areas of the face by knotting off thread and creating a trap that forces out hair by the root. It is the best alternative to waxing and tweezing, especially for sensitive skin. Unlike waxing, threading does not remove a layer of skin, which can leave the skin on your face susceptible to sun damage. By far the least invasive method of facial hair removal, threading can target individual hairs to get the precise shape and smooth finish you want, caution….. Do not tweeze or pluck eyebrows at least one week before treatment

Q. What does threading feel like? Does it hurt?

A. Threading is comparable to tweezing or waxing. You may feel a pinching or light scraping sensation, but most customers agree that threading is no more uncomfortable than other hair removal methods.

Q. How long does threading take?

A. A simple eyebrow threading can take just 5-10 minutes. The upper lip takes about 5 minutes; a full face thread takes about 20-30 minutes.

Q. What areas of the body can be threaded?

A. Eyebrows, Sideburns, Forehead, Lip (both upper and lower), Chin, Hand (including finger) & Feet (including Toes) can be threaded.

Q. If I get my full face threaded, will the hair grow back darker?

A. No. Since hairs are being removed from the root they actually tend to grow back finer over time.

Q. What are the benefits of waxing vs. threading?

A. Few benefits of Threading over waxing - Threading does not peel off a layer of skin - Hair does not grow back as fast - The skin doesn’t usually get red and irritated - Threading can target individual hairs - Hair only needs to grow just above the skin to get threaded - Over time, hair becomes finer and more sparse - Threading will pick up the finest hairs from the surface of the skin

Q. How long does threading last?

A. Depending on your hair type and area of the face, full re-growth can be anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks. Hair will start to grow back sparse and finer after repeated threading because hair is pulled out at the root, which weakened it. You can get re-threaded as soon hair grows just above the skin, whereas with waxing the hair needs to be at least 2/8” long before it can be removed again

Q. Why does the esthetician put the thread in her mouth?

A. The thread must be pulled taut in order to accurately and precisely remove each hair. However, the thread that touches the esthetician’s mouth never touches your face.

Q. How much will it cost to me?

A. For price list and our latest offers / discounts please visit our website www.rupanzelbeauty.co.uk

Q. Is it okay to get threaded if you have sensitive skin?

A. Yes. However, depending on your sensitivity level, you may experience redness or minor bumps at site, but it should subside in 10-15 minutes. In rare cases, the area may remain red for an hour or two. If you tend to break out after treatment, we recommend not using the lotion or aloe gel that your esthetician usually applies. Refrain from using face products for a few hours until the area is less sensitive. If you develop a rash that does not subside, call your dermatologist

Q. Can I specify how I want my brows shaped?

A. Yes! Before you begin, let your esthetician know how you want your brows shaped and how thick or thin you’d like them

Q. My brows don’t have a natural arch, is it possible to get them shaped that way?

A. Absolutely, but be aware that to create an arched look, our estheticians will need to remove more hair which creates a thinner brow. If you want a thicker brow shaped to your natural contours, we don’t recommend the arched look.

Q. I over tweezed. How long should I wait before my next threading appointment?

A. Although hair can be removed once it’s grown above the surface of the skin, we recommend waiting for about two weeks to give your eyebrows a chance to grow back in so your esthetician can give you the shape you want. You can come in anytime for a “clean up.”

Q. What should I do to prepare for threading?

A. Let your hair grow just above the skin and you’re ready. If you want a new or different shape to your brows, let them grow a bit but do not tweeze them so your esthetician can see their natural shape before suggesting the best shape for your face

Q. Is it safe to get threaded after cosmetic surgery?

A. Check with your doctor about the specific healing time for your procedure and inquire how long you should wait until to resume threading.

Q. How does Thread protect its customers?

A. All of our equipment -- scissors, tweezers and brushes -- are disinfected in Barbicide after every use. We rotate all of our tools so they can be sanitized in the Barbicide for the proper amount of time. We also use disposable panties for all of our wax treatments and we never double dip our wax! Thread estheticians wear non-latex rubber gloves during all waxing and facial sessions.

Q. I didn’t have a good experience at Thread, now what?

A. If you have any problems while you are at Thread, please talk to us and let us know how we can make your next visit better. We’d rather work out the issue than have you leave dissatisfied and unwilling to return and recommend our services to your friends. It’s our policy that you may request another esthetician any time during a hair removal service if you are unsatisfied.

A. When applied properly, eyelash extensions will last the length of the natural growth cycle of your eyelashes. Everyone's experience will differ based on day to day activities but over all touchups should only be required every 2 to 3 weeks. A special waterproof bonding agent is used. Glue does not contain any fumes or irritants and is long lasting.

Q. How often should I get touch-ups?

A. We recommend getting a touch up every 2 to 3 weeks. If you wait too long your eyelash extensions will fall out and you will require a full set. Your natural eyelashes fall off every 45 - 60 days due to the natural growth cycle and are naturally replaced with the growth of a new eyelash. Other factors such as expsoure to steam or touching your eyes alot may cause the extensions to fall sooner. A touch up is needed to fill in any lashes that fallen. Touch ups average about 45 minutes.

Q. Can I apply mascara to Eyelash Extensions?

A. Yes, even though mascara is not really required since the extensions actually give the illusion of wearing mascara it can be worn.. It must however only be water based mascara. DO NOT USE OIL-BASED OR WATER-PROOF MASCARA. Waterproof mascara or any type of oil based mascara can dissolve the bonding agent and shorten the life of your eyelash extensions causing them to fall sooner. Care also needs to be taken in washing off the mascara. Only use a water based eye makeup remover.

Q. Can I swim, shower, exercise, or visit a spa while wearing Eyelash Extensions?

A. Yes. The bonding agent we use is waterproof and allows you to shower, swim, exercise etc. Special care is required but overall maintenance is low. We do recommend however that you use heavy water, such as in the shower on your lashes for about 12- 24 hours after the eyelash application. A light Mist is fine.

Q. Can I use Eyelash Curlers with Eyelash Extensions?

A. We do not recommend using mechanical eyelash curlers on your eyelash extensions as these curlers will damage the extensions and possibly your own natural lashes. The extensions do have a natural curl but if more of a curl is required we recommend using a heated eyelash curler.

Q. Is the product FDA approved? Is it safe?

A. Currently the FDA is not regulating eyelash extensions because the eyelash extensions are applied to the natural eyelash hairs and do not touch the skin. The application process is pain-free and relaxing that most clients fall asleep during the procedure. However, improper application by an unqualified eyelash technician can cause damage to your natural lashes. We recommend only using a Certified Eyelash Extension Specialist.

Q. How long will it take to Apply Eyelash Extensions and how is it done?

A. The application process for lash extensions normally takes anywhere from 45 min. - 1.5 hours with someone who is experienced doing these. If you go to a newly certified professional it may take up to 3 hours. You will lay comfortably on a massage or facial table with your eyes closed. The Eyelash professional will then apply an under eye gel pad to cover your lower lashes . Then the extensions will be applied to each individual eyelash on a hair by hair basis.

Q. How do I choose the look I want?

A. Eyelash extensions are available in a number of lengths and thickness. We normally consult with you first to see what type of style you are interested in. We also determine what your lashes can hold in regards to size. Each person's lashes will vary in strength and length. We take this into consideration when creating a look for you. The overall look of the lashes is very natural. There are also available though LASH OUT! four different lash sets ranging from basic to glamour.

What is waxing?+

Q. What is a waxing?

A. Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks, although some people will start to see re-growth in only a week due to some of their hair being on a different growth cycle. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, pubic area (called bikini waxing), legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many types of waxing suitable for removing unwanted hair.

Q. What is a bikini wax?

A. Bikini wax removes the hair visible outside of your panty line, including the inner thigh area if necessary, and the top of bikini line, creating a clean triangle shape.

Q. What is a Brazilian bikini wax?

A. There are two kinds -- the semi-Brazilian and the Full Brazilian. The semi-Brazilian is similar to a regular bikini wax, but it goes in much further from the panty line, leaving a small patch of hair in the middle often called a “landing strip.” Full Brazilian bikini wax removes all the hair from the lip back to the thong area, leaving you completely bare.

Q. How long does my hair have to be before getting waxed?

A. At least 1/4” long, so it lays flat against your skin.

Q. Should I trim my hair before my appointment?

A. No. If your hair needs to be trimmed, your esthetician will do it as part of the waxing session.

Q. Do I have to take off my underwear to get a bikini wax?

A. We provide disposable panties to wear during your wax so you don’t risk getting wax on your underwear. If you’re having other areas waxed, like your arms or underarms, you can request a cape to cover yourself so you can remove your bra.

Q. Can I get a bikini wax while I have my period?

A. Though some clients have come in on the lightest day of their periods, we don’t recommend getting a bikini wax while you have your period for both sanitary and comfort reasons. When menstruating, your skin is more sensitive, amplifying the discomfort of biking waxing.

Q. Is it okay to have sex the same day I get a bikini wax?

A. The area may be sore but if it’s comfortable for you then go for it! To reduce your chance of infection for a day or two after waxing, consider washing the area after sex.

Q. Is it safe to get a bikini wax if I’m pregnant?

A. Yes, though we recommend consulting your doctor first.

Q. I have a big event coming up, how long before should I schedule my bikini wax?

A. In order to keep your schedule as stress-free as possible, and to let sensitivity subside, we recommend coming in at least 48 hours before your event.

Q. What type of wax to you use?

A. Honey wax for sensitive skin. It’s great at removing hair without irritating your skin.

Q. I shave my bikini area, but now I want to try waxing. How long do I need to wait before getting my first wax?

A. Wait at least two weeks for your hair to grow back before getting waxed. Once your hair is at least 1/4” long (meaning it lays flat against your skin) you’re ready for your first wax!

Q. Will I get fresh wax for my session?

A. At Thread we only use clean wax. We never double dip -- clean wax is poured into a disposable cup at the beginning of each waxing session and thrown out after every use as are the applicator sticks. For added protection, our estheticians wear non-latex gloves.

Q. My esthetician used scissors when giving me a bikini wax. Is that sanitary?

A. Yes. All of our equipment -- scissors, tweezers and brushes -- are disinfected in Barbicide after every use.

Q. What kind of rubber gloves to use? I’m allergic to latex.

A. We only use non-latex gloves at Thread.

Q. How often should I get a bikini wax?

A. Depending on how long if takes for your hair to grow to at least 1/4” long (meaning it lays flat against your skin). The average is 3-5 weeks.

Q. How should I prepare for a bikini wax?

  • Come clean, but do not use lotion
  • Don’t shave for at least 2 weeks, hair needs to be at least 1/4” long, meaning it lays flat against your skin.
  • Wear loose clothing -- tight jeans can be uncomfortable after a wax
  • Arrive a few minutes early so you have a minute to relax before the session begins
  • Budget your time – a wax can take any from 10 to 40 minutes depending on the kind of bikini wax you get.

Q. How do I care after wax care ?

A. Do not use any products on the area for at least 48 hours, including lotion (or worse, alcohol). To soothe the area you can try Tender Skin or Rosewater or organic aloe to reduce irritation and prevent ingrown hairs.

Q. How much will it cost to me?

It increases the skin's elasticity, allowing for increased movement and mobility, especially on the skin covering the hands. But the benefits of paraffin wax don't stop there. Because paraffin wax treatments are a form of heat therapy, they're often used for muscle, tendon and ligament ailments. As with conditions like arthritis, they increase blood flow, improve joint stiffness and reduce pain. They're also used to treat bursitis, tendonitis, sprains and pulled muscles..

Q. What is Indian Head Massage?

A. Indian Head Massage is a treatment derived in India thousands of years ago as part of the ancient Ayurvedic healing system, a system which teaches self-care and prevention of illness..

Q. What happens during a treatment?

A. A session with Indian Head Massage will last for about 35 minutes. The treatment is very simple. You will simply sit in an upright chair or on a massage couch, whichever you prefer. The treatment consists of a soothing massage, using light fragrant oil, focusing on your upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, head and face. The client always has a choice whether they would like oil to be used in the massage or not.

Q. How will it make me feel?

A. Immediately after the treatment most people feel very relaxed and refreshed. Some can feel sleepy while others feel re-energized and alert. Most people enjoy an immediate improvement in sleep and energy levels the day after the treatment. However, each person is unique and can respond to the treatment differently. In rare cases you can feel worse after a treatment and you may believe the treatment has not worked. However, these reactions show that the treatment is working and the body is releasing the toxins and impurities. This is only temporary.

Q. I’m taking medication, can I still have an Indian Head Massage?

A. Your medication should be unaffected. However, you may like to discuss this with your doctor who can advise on your dosage.
